The Kenyan runner secured a landmark 4th world 1500m championship as the middle-distance star extended her run of excellence with a fifth straight world gold in the event

The 31-year-old equaled former men's record breaker El Guerrouj as the exclusive other runner in athletics history to collect four world titles at the global event

Following her 3rd back-to-back Games victory in the previous year, this marked a 3rd straight championship win for Kipyegon, who controlled the race from the start before pulling away of her opponents on the last circuit

Not only is she victorious in the previous five global finals but, aside from heats, she has remained unbeaten over the distance for more than 4 years

Celebrating openly and a confident grin which suggested it had never been uncertain, Kipyegon celebrated the 8th global gold of her career

Her tally is level with sprinting legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce - the exclusive additional female athlete to win a total of 4 world titles in the same event - and long-distance icon Dibaba for the most by a woman in singles competitions

Faith will now target a second successive global double in the 5000 meters, the qualifiers for which begin on the coming Thursday before the championship race
