Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
