The January recruitment period is always a period of feverish rumour and potential major moves. A number of prominent players are being linked with transfers away from their present teams. Here is a look at a selection of the key names that might be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the AFCON, which has kept the forward in contention, reports suggest a significant transfer is imminent. This 25-year-old has a deal with a substantial release clause applicable for a short period in early January. Latest developments suggest Manchester City have emerged as his services. Former suitors like Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have turned their attention to other targets, potentially opening the door for teams like Liverpool or Manchester United to attempt a late move.

Marc Guéhi

The English centre-back has continued to impress for Crystal Palace this season a summer transfer to Liverpool falling through. With his deal set to run out in the close season, this represents the club's last opportunity to secure a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of elite sides, such as City and multiple continental powerhouses like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly hold an interest. However, a January departure remains difficult, particularly given the manager's dependence on the player.

B. Johnson

This Welsh winger has had starting minutes limited at Spurs this campaign. Although being the side's top scorer last season, Johnson has begun just a handful of Premier League matches. Reports suggest the North London club would be open to a transfer for the right price, believed to be in the around forty million pounds. The Cherries appear to be at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also showing an interest.

Tottenham value the Welsh international at around £40m.

R. Neves

This Portuguese midfielder might be set for a return to the English top flight after a spell in Saudi Arabia. Now just twenty-eight, and with his agreement expiring in the summer, he represents a potential opportunity. Clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the former Wolves man. Additionally, there are rumours from Spanish media that he would be prepared to take a reduced salary for a switch to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This experienced German shot-stopper is now as third-choice at Barcelona under the coach Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and undergone an operation, a January exit seems highly likely. Aston Villa were once mentioned as a possible destination, but that move now appears off. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be showing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

This prolific England striker has kept scoring regularly in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League could boost his fading chances of making the national World Cup. But, arranging a transfer poses significant hurdles. His current club are reluctant to sell him, and his alleged huge weekly wages render any agreement difficult. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton are all linked as admirers.

Because of specific rules regarding representing two clubs in a season, a move back to his parent club prior to next season appears to be the only viable solution.

Kenan Yildiz

The highly-rated Turkey forward is in fine form for Juventus this term. With his existing deal nearing its end, a host of English clubs – such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are keeping tabs on the situation. Juventus are eager to secure the youngster to a lengthy agreement but face a race to keep one of Europe's most promising young talents.

K. Smit

The much-admired Netherlands midfielder has drawn parallels to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. Following impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, he has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar side. This teenager is heavily tipped to make a major move this month. Newcastle United reportedly are frontrunners, but are facing stiff competition from Real Madrid for a signing valued at around twenty-two million pounds.
